St. John's law professor Will Murphy in bid to replace George Santos

A St. John’s University law professor is seeking to replace serial lying and scandal-scarred Long Island Rep. George Santos in Congress — saying he’s “just had enough.”

“I want to put honesty back and integrity back in government. I want to restore trust in government,” Democrat William Murphy, 39, told The Post in announcing his congressional bid.

Murphy, who has been teaching legal studies at St. John’s since 2012, resides in Farmingdale in the 3rd Congressional District represented by Santos that takes in Nassau County and parts of northeast Queens.

“Santos is a disgrace and must be replaced one way or another — whether via resignation, removal or at the ballot box,” Murphy said, adding the first-term congressman “should resign because he betrayed the public’s trust.”

“The one thing we don’t need is someone who can’t utter a true statement if his life depended on it,” Murphy added.

“The Speaker of the House [Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) didn’t have the courage to kick him out — even though doing so would keep the seat red.”

Santos, 34, admitted to lying about his education, employment and family history and has been treated as a pariah by fellow New York Republicans, most of whom have called on him to step down.

He also faces several criminal and ethics investigations for shady financial dealings, including questions about the the bankrolling of his campaign.

Worried about losing the seat in the 2024 presidential year with a heavier turnout of Democrats, the local Republican Party leadership has declared its intentions to dump Santos if he runs for a second term and support another candidate for the GOP nomination and in a primary, if need be.

Seeking the Democratic Party nomination, Murphy vowed not to serve more than three terms if elected and said he would not take outside income or actively invest or trade in the stock market.
